All About Legos
This post is to go with my project report that I did on the Lego factory. I found the video below on YouTube, which shows how Legos are made!
The Amazing 7-inch French Fry
Last weekend my family and I went to a local restaurant. I ordered shrimp, and it came with French Fries. To my amazement, one of the fries was the longest one I had ever seen, so I kept it and snuck it home with me.
As you can see from the picture I took, this incredible fry is exactly 7 inches long! I got to thinking about that, and wondered how many of these fries it would take to go to the moon if you put them end to end, so I decided to do a little math to find out (my dad had to help me with this ;>):
WikiAnswers tells me that the moon is 238,855 miles from the earth, so the first thing I need to do is to figure out how many 7 inch fries would it take to equal 1 mile. I know that 1 mile is 5,280 feet, and if I multiply that times 12, I get 63,360 inches in one mile. If I divide that by 7, I see that it takes 9,051 of my 7 inch fries to make a mile.
OK, now I can multiply 238,855 times 9,051, which equals 2,161,876,605 of my 7 inch fries laid end to end to reach the moon. That is 2 billion, 161 million, 876 thousand, 605 french fries. Now that is a lot of fries!
African Pygmy Frog
Hello everybody,
This is a picture of the type of frog I bought for my fish tank. His name is Flipper. He is an African Pygmy Frog. He stays underwater but comes up for air every few minutes. Flipper eats frozen blood worms. You have to hand feed him or the fish in the tank will steal the food. I put the blood worms in a drinking straw – push the straw in front of the frog and he gets up on his hind legs and eats the worms out of the straw! It is SO cool!!!!!!!!!!! I am thinking about video taping how I feed him and putting it on my blog. Look for the video coming to my blog… SOON!
Clementine, by Marla Frazee
Clementine, by Marla Frazee, is a book about a girl named Clementine, who was always getting into trouble at school, and at home. She had a friend named Margaret, who was usually the one who Clementine did things to, and then made it worse when she tried to fix them.
One time Clementine tried to help Margaret fix her hair after she had tried to cut glue out of it. When Clementine was finished, poor Margaret didn’t have any hair left at all! After that, Margaret’s mom sent a letter to their teacher asking her to make sure that she was never left alone with Clementine again.
The book has many funny stories about other things that Clementine does, like the time she tries to grow a beard. Clementine has done so many bad things one week that she overhears her mom ordering a cake that says “goodbye and good riddance.” She thinks that means that they want to make her leave. You should read it to see if her parents REALLY get rid of her! I really enjoyed this book, and thought it was very funny.
LISTEN! by Stephanie S. Tolan
Listen, by Stephanie S. Tolan is a great book. A girl named Charley is in a car wreck and breaks her leg. After that, she starts seeing a dog over and over again in the woods. She is alone a lot because her dad works most of the time and her mom is dead. Charley has to stay home alone most of the time because it is summer and her leg has to heal. So, Charley tries to make the dog her pet. She takes him to the Vet and they tell her the dog, “Coyote” has heartworms. Will “Coyote” live with Charley? Can she nurse him to health? Does she tame him? Read this great book and find out!

Indoor Surfing in Tampa
After my soccer tournament in Tampa last weekend my parents took me to a surf store with my friend Ethan to try surfing indoors on a special wave machine that shoots a strong jet of water out to make a wave. You can either ride a boogie-board or a small surf board. Since this was our first time trying this I used a boogie- board.
You sign up for a 30 minute session and then you go into the machine with a few other people and then you take turns trying to surf. It was a great experience!
Here is a link to a video of one of my runs. I was able to take my hands off the board in this one and stayed on for more than 2 minutes.
AC-DC Soccer Tournament Tampa
My soccer team played in the Adidas Columbus Day tournament in Tampa this past weekend. We did pretty well, we won our first 2 games and played in the finals for our group on Sunday. That team was pretty good and we played well but ran out of time.
Here is a link to the results.

It was a great experience and the whole team stayed at the same hotel and we all went to dinner together at California Pizza and then swam in the pool Saturday night.
As you can see, Chet the Traveling Bear went with me to Tampa!
After the game on Sunday I went to a surf store with my friend Ethan and we tried surfing indoors! My next post will be about that experience.
Project Mulberry by Linda Sue Park
I just finished reading Project Mulberry by Linda Sue Park and it is a great book. Its about a girl named Julia and a boy who is her friend named Patrick. Julia just moved to town and her family is the only Korean family. Her mom suggested growing silk worms for their project for the state fair. Patrick likes it and Julie does not because she thinks it sounds very Korean. Julia wants to be very American. Julia finds out to get the silk, the worm has to die so they set most of them free in the back yard. Julia and Patrick also collect new quarters together and they only put them in the case if they have two of the same.
I recommend this book because I liked learning about silk worms ( they only eat Mulberry leaves) and I learned about a type of food in Korea called Kim Chea. The author also talks to Julia after each chapter and they talk about what is going to happen next and other stuff. I hope you read this book!
